Dr. Michelle Abate Ruby, DMD
I’m originally from Massachusetts and grateful to be part of the NBPT community. Rob and I both graduated from UConn and spent the first few years of our careers practicing dentistry in Connecticut before returning to Massachusetts. In 2022, we had the opportunity to acquire this practice from Dr. Madison when she retired. It has been incredibly rewarding to continue caring for the patients she served for so many years while also welcoming many new patients into our practice. My residency at Hartford Hospital and early experience working alongside prosthodontists in Connecticut also gave me a strong foundation in restorative dentistry that I continue to draw on today.
I truly enjoy dentistry and am always looking for ways to continue improving. At the office, I do most of our fillings and crown and bridge work, and crowns are one of my favorite procedures. I love the combination of technical precision and artistry involved in restoring a tooth and seeing how much a well-designed crown can improve someone’s smile.
I can say with 100% certainty that we have THE BEST patients at Ruby Family Dentistry. We truly love getting to know you all and your families. The trust that many of you have placed in us is so heartwarming, but also an honor and great responsibility. Rob and I truly do our best with each patient. We know that going to the dentist can be scary, and we want you to feel cared for and confident that you are getting excellent care. We treat each person like we would a family member. The treatment we recommend and the attention to detail we put into our work are the same that we would want for someone we love—because we truly do care for you. We also believe there is something special about knowing your providers and having continuity of care as we get to know you over time.
Outside of the office, life looks a little different these days! Golf is currently on hold while we enjoy the chaos of having two young boys. When we aren’t in the office, we love spending quality family time with our sons, Robby and Rex, and our poodle, Ally. You may see us walking the family along the NBPT boardwalk, and you may even spot them at the office—they occasionally come by to visit us during the day. We are incredibly blessed and fortunate to have our work and family life so closely connected to the Newburyport community.
Dr. Robert Ruby, DMD
Dr. Ruby is a proud fourth-generation general dentist and Connecticut native. His family’s tradition in dentistry began when his great-uncle, Joseph Ruby, graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1919. More than 100 years later, the Ruby family continues that tradition, providing high-quality dentistry to patients throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Rob completed his dental training at the University of Connecticut, where he met his wife, Michelle Abate. After earning his DMD, he completed a General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital, gaining advanced training in surgical techniques, complex restorative dentistry, oral-facial infections, and the treatment of medically compromised patients. This experience provided a strong foundation that continues to influence his approach to dentistry today.
Rob is passionate about education and believes it is important for patients to understand their oral health and the reasoning behind their treatment options. He encourages questions and takes the time to review imaging, discuss findings, and make sure patients understand their options. At the office, while Michelle does most of the fillings and crown and bridge work, Rob focuses on removable appliances and dentures. He also performs many of our consultations, TMJ assessments, and oral pathology evaluations.
Outside of the office, Rob enjoys playing music, making homemade pizza, and punishing himself on the golf course—although there is a little less time for that these days with our two little ones! He is always curious and loves learning something new and intriguing, so don’t hesitate to share your interests with him when you visit the office.
